Care for a carnival?

26 January 2012

UPDATE: The Carnival starts on February 6! :)

Next month I'm participating in a Practices of Parenting Carnival over at Emerging Mummy. Her blog is so sweet, poignant and fiery and I'm excited to join her in sharing the ways we love, nurture, fight, grow, and practice the delicately messy art of parenting. Well, at least for me it's delicately messy.

Would you care to join us?
  • If you have a blog, head over to Emerging Mummy for all the link-up details (I'm looking at you, Katie).
  • If you don't have a blog but would love to contribute, let me know and I'll happily post your contribution (I'm looking at you, Nicole). For reals.
  • If you have something you'd like to hear from me (a question I often get is, "Karen, you're so amazingly beautiful and talented and the most perfect mother. Tell me, how do you do it all???"), leave me a message with a topic or a question. In all honesty, I'm often at a loss when it comes to describing exactly how this mom/child/family thing works for us. It's an ever-evolving organism of grace and forgiveness... ooh, perhaps I'll write about that...

  1. Thanks for the heads up on this...one blog post...I think I can handle that. And what I really want to know from you...how do you teach your kiddos to be good friends...especially when friends can be so rude, greedy, and just plain mean. I have been pondering this a lot lately...would love some thoughts on it.

  2. Oh, wow, we've been pondering that too. Oh kids... just want to scoop all of them up - even the mean ones - and give them a taste of grace.

  3. well said, but I am being honest here, I would like to turn them out and give them a taste of reality...mainly that they are not at the center of the universe. But you are probably right, a big dose of grace is what they probably need.

  4. Well, I think about doing that a good bit of the time, too. :) I've definitely had some not proud mama bear moments. But Jack was just sharing a story about a girl who said something not super great to him, and I thought, "oh, poor thing, who knows what someone has said to her..." Made me realize he'll repeat what someone (or we) say to him too...

  6. When you said you were looking at Nicole, you meant another Nicole right?? Not me?!

  7. Yes, you! Seriously, I leave your house inspired. Not because you're perfect, but because you try and your willing to experiment (and sometimes fail) and oh, so many more reasons. And because I said so. I'll post it here! I challenge you! :)

  8. So I haven't been ignoring you, but thinking on what you have said. I am trying to look at kids with a bit more grace...remembering that they are, right now anyway, a product of their surroundings and upbringing. I have been trying to remember that, although I can't give the love a parent should give, I can give love that will be the foundation of a relationship...that relationship might blossom into something wonderful and I don't want to miss it. Thank you for making me think.
