Baby blues

29 September 2009

Ireland 2009, Day 1 066

So I'm feeling a bit trapped at the moment. The girl has a fever, the baby has colic, and when the man is at work, I'm stranded in the middle of the country without a car or a friend or a sister.

(sorry, tears came so I had to pause)

When the girl was fussy as a baby, I would just pile everyone into the Jeep and take them to Target, or go have lunch with my mom downtown. I'd visit my stepmom and nephews after school or take the kids to the park in the city that I loved so much. But here I can't do any of that. I just sit and wait and pray, hoping that eventually everyone will fall asleep and I can rest or cry, usually both.

Oh, but the big boy is brill. As long as I keep a steady stream of crisps and cartoons coming, he's happy as a clam.

So this is a joyful post. 9 more months and we go back to the States for home assignment. Is it wrong that I'm almost nearly counting down the days? Guess I'll just chalk it up to baby blues. It's normal, right?

  1. I love you (of course!) and wish I was there to sit and talk and cry together. You're doing a great job, Sister! I'm so proud of you and all of the love and work you put into your beautiful family! I LOVE YOU! J

  2. Normal, very normal. There are all shades of blue, tho, right?

I see so many moms out with babies and little children, just pushing the buggy. They don't seem to be in a hurry at all, stopping to re-tie shoes and fix hoods and I wonder if that is their Target. Only strolling. Maybe you could get out and take the crisps with you and pretend there is a dollar-aisle somewhere in your future?

Wow, home assignment coming sooner than can be believed. : ) I think the months fly by faster the more little ones you have. Keep taking the pictures and being the mom while they will let you- you won't regret it! If I could go back, we'd do more finger paints, more picnics, more exploratory walks, more puzzles, just more everything. I'd let them get dirtier and deal with the mess. And I'd not "work" as much - more rest. I think I cried the proper amount, tho. lol

Hang in there. It's a season.
